Christmas trees......

Let me just preface this post by saying that I absolutely hate Christmas. Seriously. I can't stand all the extra crap that goes up in my house, the scrambling to find the gifts for everyone, always coming up short on the money, the whole "hype" around a holiday that wasn't meant to be celebrated this way. Always trying to please each and every relative who wants to host some special dinner or get together. All the office parties, gifts for coworkers..who do you buy for, whom do you not buy for. You get my drift.

So last night, my husband and kids...who all love Christmas...decide they want to put up the tree. So my husband had dinner started last night when I got home, so after we ate they want the decorations up. My husband goes to take a shower, and I start carting out the crap. Not an easy task, so I'm already miffed. I get out the tree stand and post, get it put together and sort out the limbs. The post keeps tipping, so I keep screwing in the bolts, however, it's not working well, the kiddos are bugging me about which ornament they want out and well, I'm really ticked off. Wanting to totally call off Christmas or at the very least, put up a cardboard tree. At that time, my hubby walks in and realized I have put the post in upside down......duh. So he and the kids take over from there, and I go fix some hot chocolate. I am now a little more calmed down, so I start helping to put up the ornaments. We get most of our ornaments on the tree and realize we have NO lights on the tree....NONE! My husband suggests we do a tree with no lights this year....I just look at him. He realizes how that would totally feed into my whole Grinch/Scrooge mentality and decides to put on the lights. It actually turned out OK, the tree is very pretty this year. I got by with only doing the tree and stockings so far. I know they will want the village out, but I'm going to hold off as long as possible :) Maybe they will forget about it...you know, out of sight, out of mind!! I'll let you know how long I get!

Have a good day and only 25 days til AFTER Christmas :)

Absolutely!!!! I am so with you on this whole Christmas thing. I do not like putting up the tree at all. In fact, as we were putting up the tree I was explaining to Hubby what a TRUE tree lighting ceremony is. Ya know, the kind where you put the tree out back and drinch it in gasoline and light a match. That thought really helped me in putting on the lights this year.
I really don't mind the extra stuff (because we don't have much 'extra'). "L" is giving me a report on the history of the Christmas tree for a school project. She has my 'scrooge' attitude and carried it a bit too far as the tree was going up. It's hard enough dealing with my own thoughts she doesn't need to voice her's too.
I couldn't agree more on all the extra stuff that goes on during the Christmas Holiday. Having to go here and there, buying for this person and then wondering what to buy for that person. Forget it all.
None of the craziness that we go through is what Christmas is about. I am already looking forward to the tree coming down on Christmas day, it's our tradition.

I can just feel all the Christmas cheer that was in the air. :) I laughed pretty hard when I read the part about no lights. Oops!

I am cracking up over here! I'm not so much a scrooge BUT I don't really like to decorate the house. I like lights outside for the kids but I'm good inside with just a few things. Some people go all out and decorate their bathrooms! Not me!

Oh my goodness....can I bring some love into this room please? You guys are killin' me! OK, no, I don't like to decorate either but once the tree is up I love the lights at night. I don't do a lot of extras anymore though and it SO comes down on Christmas day!!! That's my tradition too. Wait, I think my mood is changing...
